The APLESA Executive is pleased to announce that the final arrangements for the APLESA Strategic Planning Workshop have been finalized. However, the funding is available for one staff from only 10 member parliaments of APLESA. We shall consider the first ten countries, which will have sent in their nominees because Parliamentary Centre, Canada, our donor has funds for 12 participants only. All the members are therefore asked to submit one name of your staff to participate in the Association of Parliamentary Libraries in Eastern and Southern Africa (APLESA) Strategic Planning Workshop due to be held in Kampala- Uganda July 30- Aug 3, 2001, as soon as possible to enable necessary arrangements to be made for travel, etc.

Secondly, I advise that you also send me one name of your staff that I should forward to the Parliamentary Centre, Canada for possible selection to benefit from the APLESA Attachment programme.

I am also reminding the members who did not submit their parliaments' profiles to do so. The guidelines for compiling this information are given below. Send the profile to the secretary by attachment through e-mail address sengitu@parliament.go.ug or <woboli@hotmail.com>. This will enable him to include your parliaments' profile to APLESA website www.aplesa.org.

The Workshop programme shown here below is a tentative programme that may change according to the turn of events and the needs and wish of the participants.

GUIDELINES FOR COMPILING MEMBERS PROFILES

a) Officer of Interest contact Information.

Under this item, the following sub- items should be included;
· Title of the officer of interest
· Postal and physical address
· Telephone, fax, etc
· E-mail address 9general/ personal

b) Member Country parliament.

The following should be included;
· Name of the parliament
· Type of Parliament (eg bi-cameral etc)
· Title of the presiding officer
· Documents produced by the parliaments/ language of document
· List of political parties in the house and their leaders
· Structure/ organisation of the parliament
· Frequency of the elections in member countries
· Websites of member countries parliaments

c) General information about parliament (overviews)

· Brief histories
· Type of governments
· Political parties outside parliament
