Homeopathy for Bad
Breath
Natural and holistic treatments for
halitosis abound. After making sure that a daily dental hygiene
practice is being followed, and a twice yearly visit to the dentist is occurring, there are many other
homeopathic ( natural healing) cures for bad breath.
If sinus infection is present, it
is important to clear nasal passages frequently and to prevent any accumulation of mucous. Drinking plenty of water will keep the body hydrated and will clear away food
particles in the throat, mouth, and esophagus. Using a Nettie Pot
filled with saline solution to irrigate the sinus cavities, can be helpful in clearing the sinuses of foul
smelling bacteria. Many homeopathic workers would prescribe a
course of chlorophyll or liquid alfalfa, and would suggest checking the tonsils for tonsil stones, calcified
matter found in the back of the throat which can emit an extremely foul odor.
Some homeopathic remedies for bad
breath can be attained in liquid or pill form and include: Calendula, Kali Phosphoricum, Mercurius Soluble ( for
patients with bad breath because of tooth decay), Pulsatillaand (used for those with sour breath caused by a
high-fat diet) and Nux Vomica (for those whose bad breath is accompanied with heartburn or
constipation). It is important, however, to consult with a
homeopathic worker before taking any homeopathic medication. Also,
because some homeopathic remedies should not be taken with some Western Medical prescriptions, users should
consult with their physicians before taking any additional medications.
A combination of Calendula and
Echinacea mixed in a glass after every meal and used as a mouthwash is often prescribed by homeopathic
workers. Lemon Essential Oil, Sage Essential Oil, and Thyme
Essential Oil mixed in a glass of water after every meal and brushing makes an excellent mouthwash, as
well. A mouthwash containing zinc ions can neutralize sulfur
compounds, thereby improving mouth odors. Actual proportions of each ingredient should be obtained from a
homeopathic practitioner.
The ingestion of meat and sweets
can cause bad breath according to homeopathic guidelines because they increase the amounts of volatile sulfurs
produced in the mouth. Consuming alcohol in excess can dry the
mucous membranes of the mouth promoting foul breath, and can upset
the health of the entire body.
Traditional Chinese medicine
advocates the ingestion of dark, green, bitter, leafy vegetables to combat halitosis, since they are believed to
be helpful toward combating “stomach heat”. Likewise, alcohol,
sugar, dairy, sweets, fried foods, and coffee, are thought to exacerbate the “stomach heat”
problem.
